Ne-Yo should be more popular. Sure, sometimes his singles are huge hits (“So Sick,” “Hate That I Love You” with Rihanna), but sometimes they fizzle out. Remember “Do You?” Yeah. Me neither.
And that’s a shame, because the guy not only has a nice, contemporary R&B voice, but he also writes a good tune. His current single “Closer” is full of sexy desperation, caused by a woman he can’t get over, and he works with producers Stargate to give his obsession a groovy, sexy tempo.
See? Catchy, right? I like how the beat creeps up on you in the first section, then refuses to let you go.
“Closer” just hit number one in Britain, but it’s stalling below the top 20 in the U.S. Can we all work together to help it out? Call your Congressperson!

Ne-Yo is awesome. Had the chance to catch him on tour with Alicia Keys and he proved once and for all that he is Michael Jackson’s rightful heir. so smooth, so mellow, such a gentleman. i was hooked as soon as i heard “so sick” 3 years ago. Ne-Yo’s here to stay.

You know another song of his I really love? “Because of You.”
I hear you on the Michael Jackson front, too. That title gets put on Chris Brown a lot, but I feel like Ne-Yo is a more well-rounded musician.

Ne-Yo is the better musician. Chris Brown is more photogenic, but that may fade. Ne-Yo, although still easy on the eyes, is older and has proven his songwriting, arranging, & producing chops.

Chris Brown dances well, but that doesn’t mean the kid knows what the hell a melody is. Ne-Yo dares to do something a little different, and that scares US radio because they like to place artists into “formats”. It really doesn’t surprise me that “Closer” isn’t doing very well, but it does make me a little sad.
