Anyway, I spent the day writing 3,000  articles for 3,000  publications, and while I’m happy to have the work, I’m also kind of punchy.

As proof, here’s a thought process I endured earlier today:

Thanks to a story I’m writing about the Broadway debut of Billy Elliot, I got to speak to Elton John (who wrote the music) on the phone.  This led to me meeting Sir Elton in person yesterday, while we were both standing backstage at the Apollo Theater (Herbie Hancock and Elvis Costello were also there. It’s a long story.)

I told Sir Elton that I had seen the tech rehearsal of Billy’s first act, and with nervous eyes, he asked how it went. I said that considering they’ve got three weeks of rehearsal left, the cast is in great shape.

Sir Elton was so happy to hear my report that he grabbed my face with both hands and said, “Bless you!” I noticed he was wearing a watch that probably cost more than my entire education.

And that was an awesome, trippy experience. As I was remembering it this morning, I thought,

    I couldn’t even begin to select five words for that. I have to say that I have no memory of this song or this collaboration at all.

I actually remember seeing it on MTV and later telling one of my friends that I thought it was one of the best videos of the year.
