Hey Mark,
I love Hairspray for what it says about breaking down barriers and the power of individuals to affect change. Plus, those catchy pop tunes are great. I’ve seen it on tour and next week, I’ll see it on Broadway for the first time. In light of this week’s events, it’s going to be very poignant, and I may just a wet blubbery mess by the end of the evening.

Hi Mark, I had to say that I had the same exact thoughts as you and was glad to see you express them here. It looks like Prop 8 is indeed passing here in CA and I feel hurt and angry that 53% of my fellow citizens were either snowed in by lies or too ignorant to put themselves in someone else’s shoes. What little comfort I get from this is in knowing that we will not stop until we get we rightfully deserve as American citizens. It is inspiring to see Obama win the presidency and I really do believe he represents a turning point for this country. Those who fight progress will always end up the wrong side of history. Someday we will all be truly equal.

“The arc of history is long but it bends toward justice.” And “You Can’t Stop The Beat” made me cry in the movie and when I saw the show on Broadway, for exactly the reasons you cite.
