The 2009 movie awards season is about to begin!
You may have smelled rain last week, when nominees were announced for the Satellite Awards. Of course, you’re more likely thinking, “Satellite Awards? Since when did NASA get a vote?” but it’s easy to miss the first harbinger of a storm.
Maybe this morning you heard the far-off rumble of thunder, when the the Spirit Awards dropped their nominees. (Roommate Joe certainly heard it.)
But tomorrow? Tomorrow, the rain starts to fall. Tomorrow the National Board of Review names its award winners. The Golden Globes announce their nominees a week later, and then we’re in full-on tsunami until the post-Oscar features run in February
And I couldn’t be happier! I love going to see Oscar bait movies. I love getting up to watch the live announcement of the Oscar nominees (often with my friend Rachel and rum waffles.) I love having a drunken Golden Globes party.
The only sad thing? The Grammy nominees are being announced at a live concert tonight. It’s a cool idea, but the timing seems wrong. Can we really think about the Grammys during Movie Award Season? I hope Obama mentions this crisis during his inauguration.

So many things to love about this post, primarily the words “harbinger,” “Oscar bait,” and “rum waffles.”
Despite my weak-kneed affection for the drivel-y tripe of Twilight, this post and Roommate Joe’s predictions are getting me pretty excited for the big Os.
