Flashback!: Sprite Rap

January 9th, 2009 · No Comments

Yesterday’s Gatorade talk reminded me that Sprite figured out how to be authentically cool ages ago. Remember the nineties, when their ads were the template for hip-hop credibility?

For instance, the following may be the best song that Kriss Kross ever recorded…

For a commerical, that’s a pretty sweet rhyme. It’s no Holiday Inn Express rap, but still…

Plus, I think KK launched the entire Sprite Rap dynasty, which eventually included Nas, KRS-ONE, Eve, and Pete Rock & CL Smooth. You can’t deny the talent there. Even Kanye West loves these ads.

My personal favorite was Grand Puba’s spot, and I found a clip of him performing it live. Take a look at this, reminisce, and have a great weekend!
