Seven Reasons to Love Friday Night Lights
By Lana LoRusso
When this show first premiered, I had quite a few concerns:
* Did we really need another series about about high school? With all the shows on MTV & the CW (and I watch them all), what void could FNL possibly fill?
* Who cared about HS football in Texas? I watched Two-A-Days on MTV and got the point after a couple of episodes.
* Did I really need more football in my life? My husband watches it all the time. It’s painful.
Luckily, I decided to give Friday Night Lights a shot, and there they all were: Riggins. Coach. Matt. Julie. Buddy. This show wasn’t about football. It wasn’t about teenagers, Texas, or white trash. It was about all of it. The combo equaled the best thing I have ever watched on TV … period. Don’t believe me? Here are Seven Reasons why FNL is the best show on TV:
1. I used to hate Texas, and now I am considering moving there
2. Landry (Jesse Plemons) is the coolest ugly person on TV. (And he’s still sort of cute.)
3. Each girl is hotter than the next (that includes the mom).
4. Everyone wishes they had a Coach like Coach.
5. Watching Friday Night Lights is better than watching actual football
6. They named an episode after Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree.
7. Even guys want to have sex with Tim Riggins.
BONUS: It’s on the brink of cancellation every year due to low ratings, but NBC keeps bringing it back. In fact, they just signed on for two more seasons.
Clear Eyes. Full Heart. Can’t Lose! Panthers!

This may be one of my favorite shows ever (although Season 2 stretched my patience quite a bit). They do all the small, quiet things right, and the attention to detail is brilliant. Coach and Mrs. Coach have the most realistic adult relationship on television.

I totally agree! I LOVE this show and when they moved it to Direct TV I was so worried that the next step was cancellation. But, this season has been so strong. At first, it took some adjusting to the direction and the intense close-ups, but they really make the dramatic moments work without appearing too over-the-top, with the exception of Season 2. The Taylors have such a believable dynamic and they really love and support each other. And, it doesn’t hurt that every cast member is extremely hot!

Agreed. Every cast member is extremely hot.
I have a friend from LA who saw Tim Riggins in a coffee shop and stole his coffee cup. This is an adult in her thirties, who had her child with her. He inspires that kind of devotion.

Jesse Plemons is not ugly! He’s realistically geeky.
I almost broke up with it in season 2. Between murders, Matt’s non-acting naughty nurse love interest, and the fact that characters didn’t talk to each other anymore (Matt and Landry had like two scenes together that season, and their friendship is one of my favorites), I was so fed up. I skipped a bunch of episodes from that season that I still haven’t seen (and don’t really need to, because the show is wisely pretending that season 2 never happened). But this season brought it back to Devil Town greatness.
I know someone who went to cast party in LA (she’s an NYC-based publicist) and she said she saw Taylor Kitsch hoisting himself out of a pool and almost passed out. I prefer Saracen, but I do love Kitsch’s shoulders.

I only need one reason to watch fnl. Kyle Chandler. Ever since Homefront, I have been following him whereever I can (on tv of course).
Not very insightful, but it’s the truth.

There is no way they can cancel this show. This is the most real and down home show on today period. If they do this again in 2 years, there will be a revolt against the masses! Friday Night Lights Rocks
