Congratulations, everyone! You got 93% of the correct answers to the Ultimate 90s Music Quiz!
I’d like to thank everyone for playing. Look for the sequel very soon!
The answers are below, with the lyrics that weren’t guessed offset by asterisks. I’m impressed that people guessed the Jann Arden, Keedy, and Nada Surf songs. I’m surprised that no one guessed numbers 15 and 24.
Special thanks to Critical Condition reader Jenniffer for keeping track of everyone’s answers!
The 90s Music Quiz: 205 Lines from 205 Songs of the 1990s. You supply the song title and artist.
By MARK BLANKENSHIP
Note: Artists appear only once, except for a few duets/special pairings and group members who later went solo
The songs on this list cover every genre (except show tunes… sorry Rent fans), and they were all reasonably popular in their day. You’ll need a breadth of 90s knowledge to name them all, so teammates are recommended.
(All these songs were pulled out of Mark Blankenship’s brain… no reference tools, no Google, no nothing. Can you do the same?)

I’d like to be a dick and point out that I got the Green Jelly one when I submitted my answers a day or two ago.
So there.
There are a lot that I’m surprised that I didn’t get, and others that brought back disturbingly vivid memories of summer camp and middle/high school.
2 Mark Blankenship // Apr 13, 2009 at 1:40 am
Hey Seth — Whoops! You’re right. I’ll correct that one.
3 Alexandra // Apr 13, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Like Seth, I feel a tiny need to mention that I did know number 47. Albeit a bit late, perhaps, but still.
Anyway… I love this. Keep giving me something to look forward to on Friday nights!

Done and done. This is what I get for scanning all those comments late at night!
5 Maggie // Apr 14, 2009 at 1:41 am
24! Of course it is. I was even going through this quiz going “How can you have a 90′s quiz with no Britney?”
6 Sarah // Apr 14, 2009 at 2:02 am
I kind of love that some of the obvious ones were left unguessed. You can rely on the honor system and we actually won’t google for the answers. Awesome quiz – it must have taken you forever. Are we going to do these every week or will you go back to the ipod quizzes? Either way, The Critical Condition is my new favorite toy.
7 Mark Blankenship // Apr 14, 2009 at 2:33 am
You know, Sarah, I hadn’t thought about the fact that unguessed answers prove that everyone is using the honor system. Right on! That totally makes it more fun.
I will say this… the sequel to this quiz is arriving this Friday. Then it’s back to iPod quizzes for a while. Then there’s a huge summer quiz (with a sponsor!)
8 Maggie // Apr 14, 2009 at 2:48 am
Oh, and I just wanted to add that “How Bizarre” is my very least favorite song of all time. It makes my eye twitch.
9 K. // Apr 14, 2009 at 9:43 am
I’m actually really happy that I didn’t get the Britney one, because while I am happy for her that “her shit” and “together” are now on speaking terms with each other, I have never been a fan of her music, especially her early “works.”
10 jkc // Apr 14, 2009 at 10:49 am
Dang…one of my guesses was WILDLY wrong (how did I NOT know Cher?!?!?!). Guess that proves I used the honor system, right? This was great, Mark!
11 Seth Christenfeld // Apr 14, 2009 at 1:13 pm
I’d also like to note, in retrospect that “I Believe” is indeed a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad song.
However, Blessid Union of Souls’ followup “Light in Your Eyes,” is gorgeous, and nothing will ever convince me otherwise.

Thanks, Mark. It was great fun. Although I will hold you personally responsible if I don’t get an A on my term paper!! J.K. Sort of.
13 Katie S // Apr 24, 2009 at 12:33 am
Mark – my husband and I sat here on the couch late tonight (midnight – late for parents of a toddler anyway!) going through this quiz with the 2yr old sound asleep upstairs and had a great time!!! Thanks for such a fun “date”! Who knew that one line of a song could bring back so many memories of band camp, lunches in front of illegal MTV in the OHS choir room, winterguard and all those other monumental moments of our adolescent lives! Thanks!!
