Looks like I have to join the Elizabeth Banks fan club. Over at The Huffington Post, the actress, who stars in films like Role Models and W, just posted a sharp analysis of the movie 17 Again (which I dubbed one of the least essential films of the spring.)
In between lusty odes to twentysomething hunks, Banks calls out the film’s dubious take on teenage sexuality. Here’s an example:
My point here (sorry, I was looking up “image Hunter Parrish” on Google and got off-track) is that this movie pretty much glamorizes teenage parenting. It basically says: Go for it! Have a kid when you’re 18. Throw another one in for good measure right after and you’ll get a nice house, deck and hammock included, your baby mama apparently won’t need to work, your kids will eventually have iPods and get into Georgetown and the person you picked (when you were 17) is actually your soulmate! Don’t worry if the condom breaks — it’s cool! It’s totally worked out for Bristol, ya’ll! (Is it me or is Levi cute?)
Interesting point! I’m excited that a rising-star actor has decided to put herself out there as a critic, too. Artists and critics are not enemies, y’all. They’re the same. Word!
In conclusion, I’d like to speak directly to Elizabeth Banks.
Dear Liz,
Can I call you Liz? Anyway, I loved your review. You’re always welcome to write for The Critical Condition. Are you watching American Idol? If so, you should write about that!
XO,
Mark
