Your Sucker Punch column is super cute, Mark!

I think the general populace in the world of "True Blood" - like other citizens of horror/fantasy/"real" worlds - choose to acknowledge only when their human lives are threatened. If there's safety (and especially if there's benefit to a seemingly paranormal encounter) then why challenge fate, you know?

Look at the instances where the occult in True Blood has seemingly benefited folks, and it's all fine and dandy:

Maryanne's exotic food and opulent home - Tara and Eggs both say it's weird, but still ignorance is bliss. Of course Tara is catching on. AND - speaking of Eggs, whose to say he's not even conjured like the food and house... he IS named after a food...

The exorcisms - Yeah, sure they were "fake".
I'm still of the opinion, however, there was something pulled out of both Lettie Mae and Tara. And the witchery would have continued until something pulled out Ms. Jeanette's heart.

Fangtasia - It's fun and campy and SEXY and there's a gift shop until you get dragged to the dungeon to turn the damn disco ball.

True, the line about "table four is ordering a lot of food..." was a toss away acknowledgment. I, personally, would have LOVED to have seen several shots of Maryanne seriously stuffing her face! Shot after shot - cheese burger, fries, chicken, filet of "soul" -- like the Carl's Junior Ad. The sort of glorious gluttony on display that causes envy across Fat-Merica, not alarm. All we saw her eat was a bite of an onion ring - a bit of a let down. Next time chow down, Ensign Ro!

And whatever Maryanne's magic may be... I don't see anyone questioning that either. They're having more fun than they've had in years.

And finally Sookie. After her detective skills were honed just a few weeks ago (in series time) tracking down the murderer, I too am surprised she'd be so nonchalant hearing a MALE GREEK voice in Maryanne's head. Especially considering a significant clue to Renee's true identity was him thinking in a non-cajun-for-beginner's dialect. And there were some other plot points that also raised an eyebrow at...

Dunno. I think I'm just going to take the same viewpoint as the villagers of spooky Bon Temps. If it don't hurt me and makes me happy - let's celebrate those things, and ignore the rest of it.

Oh also, Lafayette. Yay!
