I never bought my velvet Elvis pic, as much as I would love one. But I DO have the Elvis telephone that plays I Ain't Nothin But A Hound Dog when ringing. And will fully admit it got annoying after the first 3 calls. I do think I will pass on the MJ plate, however. Lord knows I love my tacky, but it's just too much to dust.

This silly stuff can be somewhat crass, but I think if someone is selling some MJ merchandise just because fans want it, that's fine. It's when the seller lies about the "officialness" or the future value of such mass-produced things where the trouble starts.

I'd suggest people ought to look at authenticated MJ autographs, stage-worn gloves and things like that, for actual investment value. Plus you can get some rather cool stuff for not too much money, so even if the value doesn't go up you'll still have a neat item.

Give a little cred to the genius of the composition of the illustration. Jackson is obscuring his own controversial facial features. And the question of his pigment is unresolved. All that's left are eyes and a dancing silhouette (even that smaller face is in shadow). No wonder he approved it. I'm a fan, so maybe that's where we are in our mourning process. Let's keep remembering about the performance and try to forget the self mutilation.

Will we get to the point where we can celebrate MJ like we did with the Elvis stamps, vote: young vs old? How many stamps would we need?

Thanks for the clarification on MJ's approval, BHL.

And I was thinking about that painting as well. Do you think they'll bump James Dean for Michael Jackson or make room for both?

p.s. - the "Approved by Michael Jackson himself" bit refers to the fact that the images were created by Nate Giorgio in 1989 on commission and not that Michael was contemplating this particular plate.

It's not truly a feast of the vultures until someone takes that "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" print that shows up everywhere and adds MJ to one of the stools at the lunch counter (or maybe he can be doing the Billie Jean sidewalk dance outside....whatever.)

And it will come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Don't forget the Certificate of Authenticity.

Its not as God awful as some of the 9/11 plates:

But not by much.
