Awwwww snap. It’s Friday, and I’m in the mood for an iPod quiz.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these, so let me remind you of the rules:
I have put my iPod on shuffle. After the jump, I will list 30 lines from the first 30 songs that it plays. You provide artist and title.
Please don’t look up the lyrics on the web. That’s lame.
And please don’t provide more than three answers per day. That way, more people can play.
On Tuesday, I’ll provide the complete list of answers in the comments section of this post, but I’ll check in before that to see how things are going. Feel free to ask each other for hints.
And now… let’s do this thing!

#7 – I’m assuming this is Lollipop, by Mika – but aren’t there a few lines before this one that don’t use the word lollipop? Or did I get the wrong song?
#21 – These words, by Natasha Beddingfield. A friend and I were seriously obsessed with this song in senior year of college. We’d run into each other on campus, and start singing to each other from way across the field.
That’s all I’ve got.

5) “Superboy and the Invisible Girl” from Next to Normal
30) “Language or the Kiss” by the Indigo Girls
I HATE that someone already got Midnight Radio. I wanted my answers to be all showtunes. Still, represent, with 2 outta 3!

Hey Angie… My Lovesong is by The Cure. None of that 311 over here. And good on your for typing it as P!nk. I can’t bring myself to do it.
And good on you Lee with the show tunes. My recording of “Man of La Mancha” is Linda Eder’s version. Which rules. Do you know it?
And Joe… I have four versions of “Midnight Radio” on my iPod — one from the cast recording, one from the film soundtrack, one by Cyndi Lauper, and one by Dar Williams. The one on this quiz comes from Dar Williams.

Yes, Catherine, on “Only a Dream.” When that shuffled up, I hadn’t heard it in years. I’d forgotten how much I liked it!

YAY. (Aside from the obvious fun aspect, I like these quizzes because it’s fun to see the kinds of music people have on their iPods. )
4. JoJo, “Too Little, Too Lateâ€
8. Ms. Dynamite, “Dy-Na-Mi-Tee”
18. Patty Griffin, “Long Ride Home”
21 katy // Jul 17, 2009 at 8:05 pm
But wait … “Oh daddy dear, you know you’re still number one” isn’t the first line of Girls Just Want To Have Fun (#26).
It’s “Come home, in the morning light my mother says when you gonna live your life right. Oh mama dear, we’re not the fortunate ones, but girls, they wanna have fun …”
22 Gonzalo // Jul 17, 2009 at 8:40 pm
Looks like Katy and I didn’t notice that there’s no mention of the “first lines” anymore. Guess we were too excited to read all the intro
23 Emily // Jul 17, 2009 at 9:51 pm
#8 is Dy-Na-Mi-Tee by Ms. Dynamite
24 Mark Blankenship // Jul 17, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Hey Gonzalo and Katy … I decided to back off the “first line” rule on this one, since some of the songs had lines I just had to quote. (Like the line from “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”)

#6 Sympathique-Pink Martini
#24 Half a Person-The Smiths

23 — In My Time of Need by Ryan Adams
27 Mark Blankenship // Jul 18, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Wait… There’s a version of “Lesson in Leavin’” that isn’t by Jo Dee Messina?
28 DougDawg13 // Jul 18, 2009 at 2:12 pm
First of all, I was anonymous — I forgot to fill in my name before sending.
Second of all, I think Dottie West first sang it.
