Are you guys watching Hung, the new HBO comedy about a well-endowed high school teacher who moonlights as a hooker? I am, and every time I laugh, I feel kind of guilty. The show really brings out my cruelest streak.Â
To find out why, just check out my essay over at NPR’s blog Monkey See.

Yeah, I watched the pilot, and it did not grab me. I never got the sense that Jane’s character would benefit from increased financial success. Like I saw how his problems were piling up around him, but did he ever really want to solve them?
His relationship with his pimp is too focused on the selling of sex. I need to hear more about T Jane’s whole arc.
BUT I loved the indignation of “I have an MFA.” Excellent joke there.. and really her character is much more relatable for me. I understand how her newfound connection to male sexuality and access to money will matter for her over the long term.. if I bother to tune in again.

Yeah same here. I watched the first two episodes and thought Jane Adams was brilliant, but I just found the main character completely unsympathetic.
The rest have been sitting on my DVR but there’s too much other good TV I need to catch up with on DVDs for me to bother with this show.
